How to search for Speech Information
There are several types of information available to Speech students through the ACC libraries, both in print form and electronically. The tabs along the top of the page provide details on the different types of resources listed below:
| Books | You can find a good selection of speech/ public speaking books in our collection. A book can provide information about human communication, how to write an effective speech, how to deliver it in front of an audience, as well provide examples of famous speeches. |
| Reference Books | This covers encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and other resources that are referred to for specific information. Go to these for definitions, shorter explanations, historical and biographical sketches. |
| Articles | Articles from journals, magazines, and major newspapers are useful in finding information to support the main thesis of your speech. Articles from magazines and newspapers can inform you on the latest developments of a current issue, and can provide opinion pieces. Journal articles can offer peer-reviewed, authoritative information about a given topic. ACC databases can help connect you to all these types of articles. |
| Web Sites | The internet can provide a wealth of information, especially from government sources and professional organizations. |
Speech/Human Communication Video Pick
"In this deceptively simple 3-minute talk, Dr. Laura Trice muses on the power of the magic words 'thank you' -- to deepen a friendship, to repair a bond, to make sure another person knows what they mean to you. Try it." (Description and video from www.ted.com). You can check for books on language and etiquette in the ACC Library Catalog.
