The best place to start is by going through our Finding Scientific Information tutorial (see below).
Professor Sood has provided a link within Blackboard to the available research topics. Please review the topics and select one prior to your scheduled library instruction day. Once you have selected your topic, download the PDF file and save it to your device. You will refer to the topic document frequently to complete your research assignment. You will also need to download the Lab Notes sheet found on the "What do I need to answer?" tab in this guide. The Lab Notes will help you organize your research and complete your paper.
Requirements: 1-1.5 pages; at least 2 sources: a reference work and an article from a science magazine or journal. Your paper should be double spaced and your sources cited using CSE-CS (Citation Sequence) style. More information about using CSE-CS is available on the Citing Sources tab in this guide.
After completing this assignment, undergraduate chemistry students will be able to:
- examine a particular chemistry topic in depth;
- develop a search strategy for researching the topic;
- develop research skills that relate to chemistry and other sciences;
- evaluate information sources for usefulness and reliability.
