Why cite?

It is important to cite your sources so people will know if your answers can be trusted.  An answer you found from a site with an article by an art or history expert will likely be much more reliable than one written by someone who has not studied the topic all of their life.

It also allows you to give credit to the original author of the citation or idea. Trying to pass someone else's work off as your own is called plagiarism and people have failed classes, been kicked out of school, and fired from their jobs for plagiarism!

Citing Sources

Each ACC Library has a copy of the MLA (Modern Language Association) Handbook for Writers of Research Papers in the Reference collection (REF LB 2369 .G53 2016) for use in the library and copies in the circulating collection (LB 2369 .G53 2016) that you can check out. For now, check out the online resources for MLA.

You can also create citations using generators. Remember: it's your responsibility to double check the citations for accuracy!
