When you use someone else’s research, data, or ideas in your writing, you must give proper credit to the original source. In academic writing, the citation format depends on the discipline.
For ENVR 1302: Environmental Science, use APA 7th edition citation style. This includes:
Signal phrases that introduce the source (e.g., According to Smith (2022), …).
In-text citations with the author's last name and year.
A References page at the end of your paper.

Paraphrased information:
Climate change has accelerated in the last decade due to human activities (Nguyen, 2021).
or
According to Nguyen (2021), climate change has accelerated in the last decade due to human activities.
Direct quote (with page number):
"Air quality continues to worsen in urban areas" (Lee, 2020, p. 214).
or
Lee (2020) noted that "air quality continues to worsen in urban areas" (p. 214).
Peer-Reviewed Journal Article:
AuthorLastName, FirstInitial. (Year). Title of the article in sentence case. Title of the Journal in Title Case, Volume(Issue), page range. https://doi.org/xxxxx
Example:
Smith, J. A. (2022). Urban sustainability challenges in the 21st century. Environmental Research Letters, 17(3), 245–258. https://doi.org/10.1234/erl.2022.03001
Online Source (non-academic):
Author LastName, First Initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of the web article in sentence case. Website Name. URL
Example:

Look for the icons below in your resources to quickly access a citation that you can copy and past into your assignment. Don't forget to check these auto-generated citations for occasional errors (use the ACC Library Style Guides!)
