Working together to guide the ethical and effective use of AI in teaching, learning, and student success at Austin Community College.

📌 Overview & Purpose

Charge:


The Educational Framework Subcommittee is committed to the responsible and effective integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, learning, and student success while promoting transparency and ensuring academic freedom. Comprised of faculty and staff, the subcommittee ensures that the College’s adoption of AI enhances educational outcomes while upholding ethical principles and academic integrity. The subcommittee actively addresses the opportunities, challenges, and risks AI presents by shaping institutional policies for faculty training and student resources. Its primary focus is to guide AI implementation in a way that fosters innovation, supports, and drives meaningful student lifelong learning and success in the classroom and their careers.

 

Purpose: To establish a thoughtful and proactive approach to AI in education by:

  • Defining necessary AI competencies for students and faculty
  • Addressing guidelines for ethical AI use in the classroom and instruction
  • Identifying a cataloging system of training programs for faculty and staff
  • Recommending practices for AI use in instruction for both students and faculty
🎯 Focus Areas for Students & Faculty

Students

  • Define basic AI competencies and awareness of ethical and technological limitations
  • Identify AI-driven tools that enhance learning experiences
  • Promote equitable access to resources for responsible AI use
  • Encourage AI literacy as preparation for workforce participation
  • Guide the inclusion of AI expectations in syllabi and official course documentation

Faculty

  • Define AI competencies including awareness of limitations and evolving nature
  • Promote best practices for AI-enhanced pedagogy
  • Encourage faculty AI literacy and continuous development
  • Support faculty access to tools and frameworks for responsible AI integration
  • Evaluate student learning in light of AI’s impact on integrity and critical thinking

  • Finalize a clear charge for the group
  • Explore stakeholder needs and user stories
  • Develop AI-related outcomes for students, staff, faculty, and administrators
  • Identify and define necessary AI competencies

  • Draft and revise the subcommittee charge
