Roosa 25- Technical Writing: Citing Sources

Citing your sources

When you borrow someone's information, data, remarks, etc. you must give credit to the original author.  The style of documentation you use depends on the disciplinary area of the course you are taking, e.g., English or Nursing. For ENGL 2311 - Technical Writing with Professor Roosa, you are to use APA documentation.  You will use signal phrases, parenthetical citations, and works cited entries in the APA style.  Use the information below to help format your citations correctly.

👇 Citation Structure Breakdown:

  1. Author:

Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.

  2. Year of Publication (found at bottom of the specific occupation page):

    (2024).

  3. Title of the occupation page

    • Use sentence case

    • Italicize the job title only (not the whole citation)

    • Example: Librarians and library media specialists

  4. Source title (in this case, the full report/source name):

    Occupational Outlook Handbook.

  5. Report number:

    • The OOH does not have report numbers like O*NET does.

    • Leave this out (no parentheses, no label).
