Austin Public Library

Austin Public Library is free to use for all residents of Austin and the surrounding areas! You can visit a branch in person, or browse their robust collection of digital resources.

If you need a library card, click here to start the process (available for those who live within a certain area). All ACC students (regardless of where they live) are also eligible for TexShare Cards, which are library cards you can use across the state! Visit any campus library for more details.

Once you're all set, search the library catalog for the story you need and click on the appropriate title.

For instant access to eBooks, click on the green Checkout Now button on the right side of the page (this will appear if there is a copy available for checkout):

Or click the green button Place Hold to be added to a waiting list for the item (this will appear if all copies are currently in use):

Login to your Austin Public Library account using your card number and password that you created and follow the download instructions to complete the checkout process.

The Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is a non-profit, online library that provides free access to millions of texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Some items are available for download, while others can be borrowed temporarily.

You must create a free account and log in to borrow books from The Internet Archive. You may create an account on this page by choosing Sign-Up at the top right of the page:

                                        

Once you find the book you'd like to read, click on the blue Borrow button at the top of the view window. (Hint: sometimes you can choose the length of your borrowing period!) Once you're done, don't forget to click the red Return button so someone else can enjoy it!

Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is an online library of over 75,000 free eBooks. You can choose among the free EPUB and Kindle eBooks, download them, or read them online. Project Gutenberg eBooks require no special apps or accounts to read. 

Search for the story you need and click on the appropriate title. Select your preferred reading format (e.g. Kindle, EPUB) or read it directly from the web by choosing the first option listed.

LibriVox

LibriVox provides free public domain audiobooks. They are are free for anyone to listen to, on their computers, iPods or other mobile device, or to burn onto a CD. The audiobooks are read by volunteers from all over the world.
