Fire Protection Technology Apps

Apps (little software applications) allow you to customize your tablet to do the things you like to do. Some of the apps listed are free, while others are fee-based. Additionally, some apps are initially free, and then require in-app purchases if more features and functionality are desired. Listed, you will find some app recommendations we have come up with through trial, error, and our own experiences.

Fire Flow / Pump Pressure Calculator App-please select iOS or Android below to access the app
Fire Flow / Pump Pressure Calculator-Calculates both estimated needed fire flow required to extinguish a structure fire as well as calculate pump discharge pressures for various hand-lines and master streams in both standard and metric terms. (iOS)

Friction Loss Calculator App-please select iOS or Android below to access the app
Friction Loss Calculator-Calculates friction loss based on the coefficient for hoses of diameter 3/4" to 6", hose length, gallons per minute, and optionally, number of appliances. An estimated PSI of 5.0 per appliance is used in calculations. (iOS)

Fire Protection Technology

Fire FightersAustin Community College Fire Academy (ACCFA) is designed for people wanting to begin a career in the fire service. The academy is an intensive semester long program that includes classroom and hands-on instruction. ACCFA meets all requirements set forth by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).

ACC AAS degree in Fire Protection Technology
Current firefighters can further their education through ACC's associate degree program, a traditional , two year college program that includes general education classes and fire safety instruction. Upon completion, students are awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Protection Technology.

Emergency Responders: Tips for taking care of yourself
"Responding to disasters is both rewarding and challenging work. Sources of stress for emergency responders may include witnessing human suffering, risk of personal harm, intense workloads, life-and-death decisions, and separation from family. Stress prevention and management is critical for responders to stay well and to continue to help in the situation. There are important steps responders should take before, during, and after an event. To take care of others, responders must be feeling well and thinking clearly."

Important information about free access to NFPA codes and standards

What are codes and standards?

A “code” or “standard” includes a wide variety of technical works that prescribe rules, guidelines, best practices, specifications, test methods, design or installation procedures and the like. .... NFPA facilitates the development and updating of more than 300 codes and standards related to fire, life and electrical safety.

How can codes be accessed for free?  To read a current edition of any NFPA code or standard, simply sign in at nfpa.org/freeaccess.
