Library Resources And Search Strategies
There are many excellent Physics encyclopedias and dictionaries in the Reference section of our campus libraries that may be used while you are in the library as well as books that can be borrowed from the library and e-books that can be read online. Materials in our libraries are shelved according to the Library of Congress (LOC) Classification system. Most of the Physics materials will be found in the Q section.
To search for books and videos on physics, go to the library catalog. You can search by subject (Physics) or LOC call number to browse the collection online.
You may also browse the library shelves using the LOC call numbers below as a guide.
Physics call numbers:
QC81-114 | Weights and Measures | QC350-467 | Optics; Light; Spectroscopy |
QC120-168.86 | Descriptive and experimental mechanics | QC474-496.9 | Radiation Physics |
QC170-197 | Atomic Physics, including relativity; Quantum Theory and Solid-state Physics | QC501-766 | Electricity and Magnetism |
QC221-246 | Acoustics; Sound | QC770-798 | Nuclear and Particle Physics; Atomic Energy |
QC251-228.5 | Heat; Thermodynamics | QC801-849 | Geophysics; Cosmic Physics; Geomagnetism |
Remember that you can ask a reference librarian to assist you with your research, in person in the library, by telephone, or online.
