The Hourly Instruction Librarian Program was created in 2016 to:
- Provide new career librarians with an Instruction Apprenticeship/Service Learning Program for training in pedagogy, inclusive teaching, active learning and instructive reference
- Fulfill a need to provide faculty librarians with a backup system within a rapidly growing information literacy instruction program
- To provide temporary instruction librarian staffing during time needed to post, hire, and train new faculty librarians as retirements or resignations occur
Duties:
Provides point-of-use instructive reference at library reference desks, and research and information services to students, faculty, and staff, including in-person, chat, email, phone assistance
Provides classroom information literacy/ library instruction to ACC students in a classroom setting using ACC LS content
Maintains records, reporting statistical student learning outcome data to track instruction in both the classroom and at the reference public service desk
Maintains internal wiki pages, special information literacy team projects, reports, and other duties as assigned
Contributes team feedback for peer observations, attends apprentice program and district-wide training sessions
Hourly Instruction Librarians (HILs) are assigned to teach at campuses within one of three Campus Regions:
Currently, HILs are teaching both virtual and in-person information literacy sessions across all 3 Regions.
