While most leaders now know that tech is a vital part of business, many are wondering what they really need to know about technology to succeed in the digital age.

Despite new technologies, people do not always find information with ease. Do people still need help in finding the information they need, and if so, why? What can be made easier with new tools and techniques?

This chapter is intended to provide a framework and understanding of digital literacy, what it is and why it is important.

Digital literacy is critical to the success of both Computer Science and Information Systems majors in the 21st century. This generation of computing majors must be prepared to thrive in today’s online environment, regardless of their computing major.

Following a passionate plea for teachers to incorporate technology in more meaningful ways, the authors offer specific suggestions for teaching in-depth digital literacy skills.

In this chapter, you will be introduced to the concept of digital literacy and what new skills are needed in order to engage with the digital world responsibly and effectively.
