ENGL 1302 - Fletcher: How to use the resources for class

This guide is created to support students through the process of finding and incorporating historical information for their ENGL Packback discussions and their ENGL Historical Context Essay

Explore the library databases

Under the tab "How to use the recourses for class" you will find 4 pages:

In this database, I conducted a search for "Edgar Allan Poe". The screen captures on this page illustrate what the search results will look like and how to navigate through this resource. Pay attention to the purple arrows that highlight how to cite and download this source.

In this database, I conducted a search for Junot Diaz. Note that the results here look different because it is a different database, but it works the same way! Pay attention to purple oval that highlights the biographies section. Typically, author biographies offer historical perspectives.

Now, in this database I conducted a more complex search that focuses on the historical elements surrounding "The Yellow Wallpaper". Pay attention to the checked box on the left side navigation bar.

Lastly, I used this History based database to locate some historical perspectives on Alice Walker's work. For example, in the search bar I typed "Alice Walker" and "Civil Rights Movement" after reading through the article "Women in the arts and literature" in my initial search. See screen captures for further details.
