Agricultural Sciences: CSAs and Farmer's Markets

This Library Guide is an instructional pathfinder for students and faculty of Austin Community College's Agricultural Sciences program.

Community Supported Agriculture and Farmer's Markets

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs and Farmers Markets directly link local residents and nearby farmers, eliminating the "middleman" and increasing the benefits to both the farmer and the consumer. In a CSA program, a farmer grows a wide variety of crops and shareholders or subscribers commit to purchasing these crops. Farmers Markets similarly allow residents and farmers to interact without a "middleman" but without a subscription service. Consumers, like you, of CSAs and Farmers Markets support farmers directly and receive low-cost, high-quality produce.
