Pop Culture Autobiography

Purpose: Summary, Critical Response, Personal Reflection

In this short paper, you will summarize the excerpts we read from Horkheimer and Adorno’s essay “The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception” in one paragraph and then write a single paragraph response to the text in which you reflect on how pop culture has shaped your identity. You must use at least one example of pop culture from your own life in the response paragraph and show how it supports Horkheimer and Adorno’s theories about mass culture. You will also create a Works Cited entry for the Horkeimer and Adorno essay as well as any other sources you used for your pop culture example. Note: You do not need to do any external research for this paper but when you include a direct quote from your pop culture example– for instance, a favorite quote from a song or TV series or video game – then you do need to cite the text you have chosen in the body of the paper as well as in the Works Cited page.
