Instructions and forms for the Faculty Librarian and Head Librarian Evaluation Process

Overview of the Exemplary Teaching Statement and the Evaluation Process

Overview of the Faculty Evaluation Process

Austin Community College values quality teaching and a learning environment that supports the continuous enhancement of the professional skills of its faculty. The purpose of faculty librarian evaluation is to support exemplary teaching and librarianship through a process that is transparent, fair, formative, and results in actionable information faculty librarians can use for continuous enhancement of faculty librarian teaching, librarianship, and equitable student learning and success.

The following four principles, which champion quality teaching and student learning, form the foundation of the faculty evaluation process:

    • Adopt a 360° view of faculty teaching that includes the voices of students, colleagues (other faculty, supervisors, and deans), and self-reflection to provide formative as well as summative feedback.
    • Acknowledge the different career trajectories that faculty work takes and provide within the evaluation system greater flexibility to address these varied experiences of faculty.
    • Incorporate ACC Faculty Values to provide a better reflection of the breadth of a faculty member’s role at ACC and to develop a stronger connection to the mission and priorities of the College.
    • Establish collegewide expectations for teaching at ACC through the adoption of an exemplary teaching statement.

Exemplary Teaching Statement
Collegewide expectations for teaching at ACC are summarized in the Exemplary Teaching Statement:

ACC faculty are committed to exemplary teaching that engenders equity and
student success and is guided by ACC Faculty Values. Intentionally using
innovative, evidence-based teaching practices, faculty creatively foster critical
thinking, student engagement, learning, persistence, achievement, and sense
of purpose. While cultivating a culture of belonging and inclusiveness for all
students, faculty pursue excellence and continuous improvement in course
design, teaching strategies, assessment and feedback, and student learning.

To meet the highest level of exemplary practice, faculty seek out new
strategies to intentionally nurture and respect learners’ strengths, interests,
needs, and cultures.  Faculty commit to continuous mastery of their disciplines
and teaching pedagogy as well as engagement in ongoing reflective practices
in support of lifelong learning.

What is the 3 Year Evaluation Cycle?

There are 2 tracks for the Annual Evaluation Cycle:

  1. New ACC Faculty 3 year cycle - faculty in their first 3 years at Austin Community College
  2. Ongoing Faculty 3 year cycle - faculty who have taught more than 3 years at Austin Community College

When the new Faculty Evaluations went into effect Spring 2025, all faculty and head librarians started the Portfolio cycle at year 1. During AY26 all that completed year 1 will complete the year 2 Portfolio cycle. During AY27 this group will complete the year 3 cycle. During AY28 this group will start the cycle over again at year 1, etc.

Faculty and Head Librarians hired with a start date after August 2025 will begin at year 1.
