Psychology: Articles

A guide to library resources and and other online resources for ACC Psychology students and faculty.

Finding Articles

Articles are a great way to learn about recent developments and new trends in research in the given subject. Scholarly articles are essentially researchers and subject experts sharing new pieces of knowledge with their peers around the world.

What's an article and how do I find one?

Recommended Databases

A library database is an organized collection of reliable sources such as articles, books, and videos, that you can search by topic, author, or keyword to quickly find information.  Here are the most useful databases for psychology.

Search Tips

You can search all of the library's resources in one place from one search box.  Books, ebooks, streaming videos, articles, DVDs...they're all searchable from the Library Home Page.

Use Keywords in databases- not sentences!

Databases work differently than search engines.  Instead of using natural language, use keywords!  Keywords are the most important words in your topic.

Example topic: What are the benefits of dogs on a person's mental health?

Keywords:

  • benefits
  • dogs
  • "mental health"

Play around with keywords if you need to narrow or broaden your topic.  Brainstorm related terms, synonyms, antonyms, etc.  Or try a keyword generator.

  • pets
  • "pet therapy"
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • disadvantages
